Too Soon for Santa?
Now that we're finally rid of the political ads, it seems like in just about every commercial break there's at least one Christmas commercial. Is it just me,
or is it a little too early for this? I realize this is a make-or-break
time for the retail types. But, Halloween is just a week past, and Thanksgiving these days seems to be all but ignored. And I really like Thanksgiving. I am not a Grinch. But, I'm just not ready for Santa, carols and happy shoppers. Don't wish me a Merry Christmas yet. I'm not in the Merry mood. Here's my idea. Why can't we hype Thanksgiving a little more. Look at Halloween. It's become an enormous boon for retailers. Why can't we have turkey lights to hang from our homes. Or giant, blow-up pilgrims and Indians to put on the front lawn? Peeps are very popular at Easter. Why not have turkey peeps. So, there's my solution to Christmas starting too early. Marketing masterminds, you need to get to work on Thanksgiving! Martha Stewart, can't you come up with more reasons for people to buy stuff?
